Am Saibal Karmakar, A full Time Artist. I started studying in the Art Department from Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta. I have always loved doing realistic work but the Department of Textiles did not give me the opportunity to do that realistic kind of work while studying for a bachelor's degree. That's when my interest grew in printmaking . Then I started my journey with printmaking.
To understand the mediums of printmaking, at first I had started work on Indian erotic Sculpture, deity sculpture. Throughout this process, I discovered various aspects of printmaking mediums.
At the time of my master's degree of museology, I came in touch of so many antique artifacts, which in turn gave me a perspective of Indian ancient art and sculpture. Not only Indian basis, but also this study gave me an emerging interest in global ancient architecture and sculpture and extra murals. In the time of my final semester in printmaking, a devastating and horrible incident had happened in ancient world architecture and sculpture. Terrorism killed the ancient heart of sculpture Lamassu () and also the destruction of Bamian budhha. this shocking news gave me an intense grief of destruction of these valuable artifacts. As an artist, how could I see the finishing of these beautiful ancient masterpieces, art combination of Roman, Aassirian and Greek culture and hereditary? So I have tried to picturise this concept in my next art works. I always prefer that people should know and understand this loss of this extremely valuable art heritages. The black and white, the story of pulmira, thought of 3rd world war, economy at gun point, medusa in her bathtub are some of the examples of my works based on this
previously mentioned concept. Thus I have evolved my art work from ancient Indian architecture to global ancient architecture.
Besides of these works, I took an attempt of changing the Gothic trend of ancient Indian art style by differing in the application of colour and techniques of hard core painting. A smere touch of global theme with a perfect blend of globalization, in my art work I want to represent the modernization of Indian ancient art and culture.
Currently I am doing a little bit of path changing form of art. In today's busy life where man is near about acting like a machine and the whole world is just running like a formula one speed car, I supposed why not put the utmost lust and the result like tragedy of mankind throughout my “Heartless”,”Is It Survive”,”Is it Survive II” . Yet it is a art but more than a artform, telling stories of unnamed, still now uncovered for the the ultimate curtain down of the universe.
